The window
In 2008, the electronic cigarette category was in its early commercial phase. Consumer awareness was growing, affiliate programs were emerging, but the review and comparison content landscape was almost entirely empty [Wayback Machine archive, 2008]1.
The build
The site was built on Weebly and structured as a multi-section affiliate review property [Wayback Machine archive]1. Navigation covered: HOME, E-CIG BLOG, ABOUT ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES, BUYING ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE BRANDS, ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE COUPONS, and a dedicated Greensmoke page.
Ten brands were reviewed: Greensmoke (featured and recommended), Vaporzone, Whitecloud, Premium E Cigarette, No Safe Cig, Volcano, eSmoke, VyCig, South Beach Smoke, and Blurip [site archive, 2008–2011]1. All on-site SEO was executed, submitted to online directories, and integrated third-party display advertising alongside affiliate links.
The result
Several dozen readers purchased electronic cigarette products through the affiliate links, with a portion becoming repeat buyers [engagement records]. Affiliate commission income was generated consistently for approximately 24 months [engagement records]. Third-party display advertising — including a Gold IRA Future banner visible in the Weebly archive — provided a secondary passive income layer [Wayback Machine archive]1.
Why it worked
Entry timing was the primary driver. The same site built two years later would not have achieved the same organic position or income duration. The early-adopter window closed as the category saturated.
